About

James Walsh - portrait

JAMES WALSH

is a sucker for adventure. His curiosity has lead him on an interesting journey of interwoven threads: climate & biodiversity, re-imagining our future, equitable participation and voice, continuous learning and change-making.

He co-founded one of Africa’s first solar project developers back in 2008, lobbying NERSA to buy renewable energy from independent power producers and raising funds to build solar plants.

He founded Sinamatella Productions, an African-focused, independent non-fiction film-making company. Although James loved his work with moving images, he fell in love with the simplicity and elegance of storytelling through the photographic medium. This is a showcase for his still image work.

He is currently focused on climate change mitigation work through decarbonisation with P2X Partners, which he co-founded.

What an artist is trying to do for people is bring them closer to something, because of course art is about sharing: you wouldn’t be an artist unless you wanted to share an experience, a thought.

I am constantly preoccupied with how to remove distance so that we can all come closer together, so that we can all begin to sense that we are the same, we are one.

For the last 12 years James has been capturing beautiful experiences and taking them to audiences around the world. He wanted to share his experiences first-hand, so he flipped the script and started sister company, Sinamatella Travel.
